TOP TIPS FOR WINTER SKINCARE
The season of chapped lips and parched skin is upon us; not helped by the combination of cranking heat pumps and chilly wind. With months to go until the Spring thaw, it’s time to take a solid look at our skincare routines and adjust as required.
Here are our top 5 tips to winter-proof your skin!
1. SWITCH TO A SOAP-FREE, NON-FOAMING CLEANSER
Any skin care routine begins with a good cleanse. During winter the cold, icy air can cause the skin to be extremely dry and hypersensitive. Using the wrong cleanser can aggravate the skin’s current condition and cause premature aging and sensitivity.
Choose a gentler alternative; swap your gel or foam cleanser for an ultra-hydrating one, like a milky, creamy or oil-based cleanser. Renee’s favourite – Synergie Skin’s UltraCleanse ($90.00)
2. APPLY SPF DAILY!
UV levels are not related to heat! It’s a huge misconception that we only need to apply sunscreen when the sun is out, or when it is hot. Unfortunately, the sun’s UV rays don’t shut off in the winter, though it may feel like it sometimes! Even when it’s gloomy, the silent killer UVA rays shine though.
We need to be more vigilant when it comes to applying our SPF year-round. Renee’s favourite – PCA Sheer Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 45 ($95.00).
3. EXFOLIATE
The air outside, as well as indoor heating, can suck the moisture from your skin causing it to dry and flake. Exfoliation allows for new cells to regenerate and your moisturiser to penetrate the skin, leaving you with a much cleaner, balanced skin with no irritation! Renee’s Favourite – Synergie Skin’s Exfol-X ($160.00)
4. SERUM SERUM SERUM!
To quickly plump up skin cells; water-binding serums, or gels, can do wonders! These serums help to bind water molecules to the skin for instant hydration. These serums are applied before moisturising to deliver a high concentration of ingredients to your skin prior to moisturiser. Seal in the moisture with Renee’s Number 1 pick – PCA hyaluronic boosting serum ($190.00)
4. KEEP HYDRATED
We tend to drink less water in the winter because we turn to hot drinks, but don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside, out. We can’t rely solely on moisturiser to hydrate the face and body.
