Polynucleotides
Polynucleotides (PNs) are one of the most exciting developments in regenerative cosmetic medicine, offering a gentle yet highly effective way to improve skin quality, hydration, and structure.
What Are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments—commonly derived from salmon—designed to stimulate the skin’s natural regeneration processes. Research shows that they can improve skin texture, reduce wrinkle depth, enhance elasticity, and support tissue healing.
Unlike dermal fillers, polynucleotides do not add volume. Instead, they encourage the skin to restore itself at a cellular level by activating fibroblasts, increasing collagen production, and improving hydration.
Benefits of Polynucleotides
- Improved Skin Hydration & Radiance
PNs bind water and boost hydration, helping soften fine lines and promote a youthful glow.
- Enhanced Collagen & Elastin Production
Polynucleotides stimulate fibroblast activity, supporting collagen, elastin and extracellular matrix repair for firmer, more resilient skin.
- Tissue Repair & Anti‑Inflammatory Effects
PNs promote healing, reduce inflammation, and improve skin integrity—making them ideal after procedures or for compromised skin.
- Natural‑Looking Results
Because the treatment enhances your own cellular activity rather than adding volume, results appear soft, subtle, and naturally refreshed.
Who Is Polynucleotide Treatment For?
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loss of elasticity
- Dull, dehydrated, or crepey skin
- Early signs of ageing
- Sun damage and oxidative stress
- Thin, fragile under‑eye skin and dark circles
- Acne Scarring
No skin test is required prior to treatment. A full medical history will be taken prior to treatment, and you will have an opportunity to discuss the treatment in full with your Cosmetic Medicine Practitioner. You will need to complete a consent form before treatment.
DURATION OF EFFECT
A typical course involves:
- 3–4 sessions
- Every 2–4 weeks, depending on the treatment area
- Maintenance every 6–12 months
Results are gradual and cumulative as collagen and cellular repair improve over time.
ADVERSE TREATMENT RESPONSES
The common injection related side effects are localized and transient, and may include one or more of the following responses:
- Swelling / redness / bruising / pain / tenderness / itching
Rare side effects can occur, and these include:
- Injection into a blood vessel. This may cause temporary skin discoloration and breakdown, blistering and scab formation which may result in a scar.
- Very small chance of granuloma formation, which may require excision.
Extremely rare side effects:
- Cases of blindness have resulted from injection – especially when injecting the nose and between the eyes.
