These post-care instructions have been created to help maximize your aesthetic outcome.

Post Procedure Healing Information

The healing time for any given treatment varies between different patients. The following represents the general recovery phases you might expect:

IPL Hair Removal:
Perifollicular erythema, edema (redness and/or mild swelling) can appear.  Lasts approximately 5-7 days and can be accompanied by itching sensations in the area.

Pigment IPL Treatment:

Browning/darkening of the pigment, purplish or black tint to dark pigment (crusting of the pigment over a few days, crusting flakes off), erythema and edema (redness and/or mild swelling). Lasts approximately 7- 14 days. Do not pick, rub excessively, or exfoliate these darkened areas unless you have discussed this with your practitioner. This is a normal consequence of the treatment, and the skin will shed naturally with time.

Vascular Lesion IPL Treatment:

Blanching of the vessel, greying of the vessel, deep purple or blackening of the vessel (over the course of a few days the damaged tissue will be broken down and absorbed), redness and/or mild swelling. Lasts approximately 3-7 days.

Acne IPL Treatment:

Deepening of the colour of the lesions, tenderness to the lesions (if cystic), blanching / greying of vessels / vascular scars, intense edema and erythema (redness and/or mild swelling). Lasts approximately 5 – 10 days.

General Swelling/Discomfort/Redness:

Significant swelling and redness of the treated areas and untreated parts might occur following these procedures and will be maximal at 24-48 hours after the procedure. It is not uncommon for patients to have their under-eye area swollen for the first 1 to 2 days, but this swelling will subside. There will be redness and very minimal warm emanating from the area for the first 24 hours (feels like a mild sunburn). You should notify us if you experience pain that is severe or excessive, as this is unusual.

If for any reason you are concerned about the possibility of a serious adverse reaction, or if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Blistering
  • Increasing (rather than decreasing) facial swelling after the first 24-36 hours
  • Redness spreading beyond the area of treatment that is warm and tender to touch
  • Or any excessive pain

After Care Instructions

Activity:

Post treatment discomfort is mild, and you may return to regular activities immediately. It is advised that you avoid hot baths/showers/saunas/tanning beds/jacuzzi/pools for the first two days following treatment (the bacteria in these can cause an infection, and the heat can cause inflammation or blistering). Avoid intensive exercise for 48 hours as it can increase swelling and the likelihood of blisters forming, due to the increased heat. It is best to avoid applying ice or cooling compresses as the heat response is the body’s natural healing response. However, if extreme heat or discomfort is experienced, use cold compresses to soothe the area.

Skincare:
Moisturiser may only be applied 24 hours after each treatment, and then should be applied regularly throughout the course of the treatment. Do not use any perfumed products or deodorants on the treated area for 2 – 3 days. Do not use any vitamin A or C on the treated area for 3-5 days, and no exfoliating products for 14 days.

Hair Removal:

Do not wax or tweeze the area during your course of treatments; this can alter your results.

Make-up:

After 24 hours, most patients are ready for make-up to hide the pinkness of the skin.  It is important that you remove all make up that is applied to the skin at night.

Sun Avoidance:

Sun avoidance should be part of your skin care program.  Always use a broad spectrum SPF30 or greater. Avoid any sun exposure, tanning beds and artificial sunless tanning lotions in the treated areas during the course of the treatment.

We hope you will be delighted with the outcome of your treatment.
