What is Elos?
A simple, safe, non surgical procedure utilising a combination of electrical and light energies for the treatment of skin rejuvenation and tightening, pigment and vascular lesions, hair removal and acne.
What is Elos?
Elos stands for electro optical synergy and combines bipolar conducted electric current with optical (light) energy to isolate and effectively treat the problem area, leaving the surrounding skin free from potentially harmful side-effects. By emitting the optical pulse and electric pulse at the same time, the net effect is to force the electric energy to stream preferentially to the regions of the dermis pre-heated by the absorbed light, producing a greater, more focused thermal effect than a single pulse of high energy light. With less intense light energy there is less risk of burning and the synergistic coupling of energies means that each pulse can be delivered for a longer period of time than standard IPL, thus yielding better results.
What can Elos be used for?
Elos technology can be used in:
- Skin rejuvenation particularly of the face
– Repair sun damaged skin
– Treat pigmented lesions
– Treat vascular lesions
– Skin tightening
– Improve wrinkles and fine lines - Removal of unwanted hair on all skin types.
- Acne treatment

How does Elos work?
The light and electric energies break up the pigment and/or blood in lesions and stimulates collagen restructuring and/ or production, restoring skin to a more youthful state. Brown spots (pigmented imperfections) from sun damage and ageing, red blotchiness from spider vessels or rosacea (vascular imperfections) and rough skin will improve over a treatment series. Skin tightening is affected by the skin’s response to heat directed into the dermal fibrous network. This results in new collagen being laid down and plumping and tightening of the skin.
Hair removal: The gentle light and electric energies combine to damage the hair follicle. This disables the follicle of the growing hair, which means that gradually over several treatments, there is a long- term reduction in the amount of hair in that area.
Acne treatment: The combined energies of Elos (natural blue light with electrical energy) enable highly selective targeting of the sebaceous glands and acne bacteria.
Electrical energies reduce sebaceous gland activity while blue light heats the acne bacteria. It is recommended that the entire face is treated, not just the active papules or pustules.
What results can be expected for?
Skin rejuvenation:
- Decreased ruddiness of complexion
- Resolving of broken capillaries
- Reduction of sunspots, brown spots and freckles
- Softening of fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin tightening Cost $700.00 each, 5 required
Treatments are repeated every 4 weeks for an average of 5 treatments for plumping and tightening of the skin.
What happens in a treatment?
Your pertinant medical history will be taken prior to your treatment and you will have an opportunity to discuss any aspects with your Cosmetic Physician or Skin Specialist. You will need to complete a consent form before treatment and photos will be taken.
Special eye shields need to be worn during treatment. Elos procedures require no sedation or anaesthesia. The sensation is often described as a “hot pinch” or “snapping” feeling. The sensation only lasts for a fraction of a second and a hot stinging sensation is experienced for a short time. Most people tolerate treatments without any topical anaesthetic, but those who are more sensitive may prefer to have topical anaesthetic applied prior to treatment. This is applied 1 hour before your treatment. At Clinic 42 we have a cold wand which reduces the discomfort during the treatment by blowing very cold air onto the treated area.
Are treatments with ELOS safe? What are the side effects?
There are no long-term health hazards and both light and electric energy have been used safely for decades in medicine, surgery and aesthetics.
The more common side effects are reddening of the skin, some post treatment swelling which can last up to two weeks and darkening of pigmented lesions.
Who can use Elos?
Anyone except those with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, arrhythmias, epilepsy and those using Roaccutane.
What after- care do I require?
Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a short time, and most people return to work or normal activities immediately after treatment. Brown spots will go darker before the area lightens. The improvement in pigmented and vascular irregularities can be seen before the next treatment 1 month later. You will require a good sunblock after treatment to prevent pigment changes when exposed to the sun. Wear this 2 x/ day. Your therapist can advise you on the best sunblock available at Clinic 42, for you. Avoid sun exposure as much as possible.

Regular use of the treatment cream your skin specialist has advised is recommended. Vitamin A is responsible for regulating the health of DNA in every skin cell and is destroyed by exposure to ultra violet light. Vitamin C is one of the fundamental anti-oxidants that protects cells. These are therefore essential to use daily.
Now you can make the advanced choice for skin rejuvenation, hair removal and acne treatments with ELOS.
